SYRLJ is ‍the only organisation in South Yorkshire providing a dedicated service delivering immigration legal support and representation to people who have been refused asylum and have no legal status in the UK

Many of those who use our service are facing destitution, detention and removal from the UK and are reliant on ad hoc and insecure support from charities, the local authority and small community and faith groups to meet their basic needs. Many of our clients have never had the opportunity to fully explore all their legal options and have not had a fair hearing in their application to remain in the UK.

The situation for those seeking Sanctuary in the UK has changed drastically over the decade that SYRLJ has been in existence.

The provision of immigration legal advice is now at a crisis point across the country with almost half of those now applying for Refugee Status, unable to get legal support with their applications.
